Much of the industry is shifting over from unfinished material to pre-finished material. Pre-finished floors are solid 3/4 inch thick, just like unfinished floors, but they are finished at the factory. The advantage here is that the finishes at the factory are much stronger than what any professional can apply on the site. Most of these finishes are sprayed on, contain aluminum oxide, are semi-gloss in sheen, and are warranteed for up to 20 years.

Pre-finished floors have very small beveled edges on their sides, to make up for any height variations which might occur. Since we do not sand them down, these beveled edges make the floor seem perfectly flat under foot. Having the micro-beveled edges, they have a slightly different look than unfinished floors. Almost every species of wood available in unfinished form is also available in pre-finished form. When the pre-finished floor becomes worn, you can always refinish the floor and it will look as good as new.
